The Alaska Warrior Partnership (AKWP) team knows how much transportation can impact a veteran’s quality of life. As winter set in, one warrior and their family found themselves in temporary housing, struggling to access basic needs and important appointments.
Army veteran George Summers* and his wife, Dawn*, were on the verge of securing permanent housing through Catholic Social Services' SSVF program just days before Thanksgiving. However, while they waited in a hotel, they faced a new challenge—no way to cook a holiday meal and no transportation to attend a local Thanksgiving event at Frontline Mission.

Ever wondered what $10 could do? It can save the lives of veterans like the one you're reading about in this story. Donate $10 a month and help us reach veterans before a crisis occurs. Together, we can do better. Our veterans deserve better.
Their case manager reached out to Alaska Warrior Partnership (AKWP) for additional support. AKWP Case Coordinator Tiana Freeman quickly connected them with Connect Vets, which provided a temporary transportation solution. This allowed the couple to enjoy a community Thanksgiving meal and ensured they could attend medical appointments and meet with a Veterans Service Officer to work on increasing George’s VA disability benefits.
"This was such a relief – a big, big help!" - George Summers, Army Veteran
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of AKWP, Connect Vets, and other supporting organizations, George and Dawn will continue to receive support to live a comfortable life.
